London: English pop star Jessie J thinks a lot of artists are dummies because they get told what to do by their managers.

The 23-year-old ‘Price Tag’ hitmaker is proud of the fact she writes her own songs and that she got her break penning tracks for other people – including writing Miley Cyrus’ huge hit ‘Party in the USA’, rather than having a manager guiding her, reported Contactmusic.

“There are lots of artists out there who are just dummies, getting dressed by management, being told what to say and sing and wear, but I’m really proud of the fact that I write songs and pitched one to Britney. She might not have used it, but I’ll just write a better one,” she said.

Jessie is modest about her abilities as a songwriter and said that she is puts being a performer and artist foremost.

“I’m reluctant to call myself a songwriter. It’s kind of come across in my interviews like that’s my main thing and being an artist is second, but that’s not it at all,” Jessie said.

The singer, who has had three top ten one hits in the UK, also said she didn’t realise all of the other roles she would have to take on as well as performing and writing songs when she became a pop star. (PTI)
