Attempt to break deadlock over 4-lane construction

SHILLONG: The State Government constituted committee which has been formed to find an acceptable solution regarding the construction of the four-lane road along the Umsning stretch of NH-40 is likely to submit its report next week.
“The committee has already started its task to get the views of all those people who are concerned with the proposed project, especially the land owners,” a senior government official, who is a member of the committee, told The Shillong Times on Saturday.
When asked about the preliminary findings of the committee, he declined, saying that the committee was not authorized to divulge any information.
“We would directly submit our report to the Government. Once we submit the report it is for the State Government to take the final call on the matter,” the official added.
When asked about the demand of the NGOs to include more Rangbah Shnongs into the committee, he said that as per the Government notification, the committee only includes representatives of all the villages which are concerned with the four-laning project.
The State Government had constituted the committee to break the deadlock over the construction of the four-lane road along the existing road at Umsning.
The members of the committee have been directed to take the views of each and every land owner along the proposed Umsning Bypass and also along the existing road at Umsning.
