SHILLONG: North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) will soon set up Deen Dayal Upadhya Community College in its bid to encourage vocational skill development.
Assistant Registrar (Planning) A Sohtun said the university aims to facilitate necessary training for the youth in various fields so that they can start their own ventures.
The college will start functioning at the Veterinary Dispensary Building, Wajiajer, West Khasi Hills and among the courses to be offered initially will be certificate course in floriculture (open cultivation and protected cultivation) and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician.
He informed that while the duration for the certificate courses will be three months the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician course will be of six-month duration.
The University is also exploring the possibilities of introducing a course on Bamboo Research Technology.
While as many as 30 students can opt for any of the courses at a time, monthly fees of Rs 200 will be charged from the trainees.
“A candidate should be at least class V passed for admission into the certification courses while only Class XII passed students can apply for the diploma course,” Sohtun informed.
