SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has ordered that the Holy Mother Of Aurobindo in Shillong will retain the 3.348 square meters of land while the remaining land was given to YMCA after the case came up for hearing recently.
There were claims and counter claims over the portion of land since 1998.
Supreme Court lawyer and State Counsel Ranjan Mukherjee said over phone on Wednesday that earlier on June 20, 1998, the matter was taken up by appellate authority which is the State government.
The ruling of the State government was that 3.348 square meters of land will be retained by Aurobindo and the balance by YMCA.
Following this, there were several litigations.
Mukherjee said that the Supreme Court on March 25, 2015, had disposed of the case by referring to the order of the State government regarding retention of land. The State government was also asked to demarcate the land which was subsequently carried out.
Recently, the Centre moved a petition stating that a certain portion of land at Aurobindo belonged to the Central government.
However, the Supreme Court ordered that the matter is closed and maintained that Aurobindo can retain the 3.348 square meters of land and the rest by YMCA.
