SHILLONG: The Working Group 3 of the State Planning Board has urged various local and traditional authorities in the State to come up with maps of their areas of jurisdiction which will come in handy while addressing border dispute with Assam.
The issue of maps was discussed during a review meeting of the Working Group 3 of the State Planning Board here on Friday. The meeting was attended by various line departments, traditional heads and other stakeholders. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Co-Chairman of the State Planning Board John Kharshiing said that the maps of the traditional heads would come to the aid of the State in dealing with the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute.
Stating that the disputed areas between the clans would be marked as areas of difference in their respective maps, Kharshiing said that the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council has already started its cadastral survey while Khasi Hills is still facing some issues due to the presence of several authorities. The Government had come up with the idea of clan maps years ago but it was resisted by the stakeholders then. Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the Indian Registration Act and the Law department was asked to see if the Act could be amended to have synergy among all the authorities in the State for registration of land.
