SHILLONG: The central body of the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), a pressure group, has alleged that LPG customers in the city are being supplied partly-filled cylinders.
In a memorandum to the Controller of Legal Metrology, the group has called for proper monitoring of LPG agencies and delivery cars.
“Gas cylinders are getting over after one week while they usually last longer than that depending on consumption,” said HANM president Lam Kharbani.
He also said neither agencies nor delivery cars in the city have weighing machines.
The organisation pointed out that according to the Gazette of India: Extraordinary Notification of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Department of Consumer Affairs), all marketing companies, manufacturers, packers, importers or distributors of LPG will maintain a checkweigher or non-automatic weighing instrument, digital or analogue, to check the weight of cylinders.
Further, marketing companies, manufacturers, packers, importers or distributors referred to in the sub-rule (1) will provide to the delivery man weighing equipment to ensure that correct quantity of the liquefied petroleum gas cylinder is supplied.
It may be mentioned that the Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) Rules make it compulsory for every LPG delivery man to carry a weighing instrument.
