SHILLONG: Over 500 overloaded trucks in Jaintia Hills have been stranded as the Transport department has taken steps to strictly implement the NGT order in restricting the load limit to 9 metric tonnes. The coal and limestone export to Bangladesh has been stopped since Monday.
Sources said that though there are some attempts by vested interests to carry coal beyond the permissible limit, the Transport department had sent an enforcement officer who strictly adhered to the rule. Sources added that overloading was checked and fine imposed last week by the officer.
