SHILLONG: The medical and health official of Dainadubi Primary Health Centre in North Garo Hills has termed the allegations of medical negligence levelled by a group of NGOs following the death of a 28-year-old woman as “baseless”.
In a press statement on Wednesday, medical and health officer Dr B. Ch Sangma said the woman was brought to the emergency section at 7.30 pm on Monday. She faced difficulty in breathing and was suspected to have consumed ‘V Vasmol’ around 5.30pm.
The patient was received by the nurses on duty and they started with first aid even before the doctor arrived, Sangma said.
“Dr N.J.R Marak, who was on duty, attended to the patient after a few minutes following after she got a call from the sisters.
However, the so-called NGOs may be 6-7 in numbers that came along with the patient’s party started to complain that nobody attended the patient and created nuisance inside the ward,” he added.
“After the patient was shifted to another centre, some 7-8 persons came to the PHC and went inside the sisters’ duty room and created ruckus again where a person claim himself a leader of an NGO,” the medical and health officer said and added that the staff on duty felt insecure following which an FIR was lodged on the same night.
