South Shillong panel follows up civic amenities

SHILLONG: The Monitoring-Cum-Implementation Committee (MCIC) in South Shillong organised a public meeting on Saturday at Assam Club Laban and decided to follow up the issues concerning civic amenities, among others.
The meeting was attended by the traditional heads, elders of the locality, NGOs, Women’s groups, police personnel and officials of MePDCL. Issues like crime against women and children, need to check anti-social elements, proper regulation of traffic for exit, entry and parking, non-functioning of street lights within South Shillong Constituency were discussed.
Sanbor Shullai is the local MLA and chairman of MCIC.
Police and MePDCL officials assured full co-operation. The police said the law and order problem will be solved within 30 days and they would work in tandem with the Dorbar Shnong, Seng Teilang ki Kynthei, NGOs and general public.
Another meeting with the Rangbah Shnong and Ragbah Dong of Dorbar Shnong Lawsohtun deliberated on the illegal encroachment and construction of boundary walls at Lawsohtun by the defence authority.
Rangbah Shnong Headman Mitchell Wankhar and Rangbah Dong along with the members of Dorbar Shnong Lawsohtun have decided to file a complaint against the encroachment to the Ministry of Defence authorities and the State Government. On the other hand, Sports and Games materials were distributed among 100 committees comprising colleges, schools, sports and cultural clubs and youth welfare organisations under South Shillong at RLSSCO Community Hall, Bishnupur.
