SHILLONG: The State Congress has decided to plunge into election mode with the leadership directing various block committees to submit the list of party candidates for 2013 assembly election before February 15 next year.

The East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee (DCC) president Prestone Tynsong said the directive has already been issued by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee.

Tynsong, who holds Forest and Environment portfolio in the Mukul Sangma government, said that despite being a sitting legislator this time he would have to fight for the party ticket.

The DCC president said due to delimitation of the constituencies this time he would have to contest from a new-look Pynursla constituency.

He said a total number of 22 polling stations each from Lyngkyrdem constituency (his former constituency) and Nongshken constituency would be under the new constituency.

Other aspirants for the party ticket from the Pynursla constituency includes former Nongshken legislator KK Dkhar.

Even though more than one year is left for the going to the hustings, Tynsong claimed that the Congress would win more than 40 seats.

“We are pretty confident that we would be winning by a thumping majority in the upcoming election,” Tynsong said. But he added that despite being in the majority, the party would still continue with its coalition partners for the overall development of the State.
