Over 300 POCSO cases pending in courts in M’laya

SHILLONG: As many as 343 cases of sexual crimes against minor are pending in various courts in Meghalaya.
While there were altogether 354 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, only 11 cases were disposed of in the State.
As per the official data with The Shillong Times, out of the 134 POCSO cases pending with the District and Sessions Judge, Shillong, only two were disposed of. The number of POCSO cases with the District and Sessions Judge Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi, is the second highest after East Khasi Hills. Of the 76 cases, only two were disposed of. Under the District and Sessions Judge, Jowai, 54 out of 63 cases are pending.
This is followed by the District and Sessions Judge, Tura, which has 41 pending cases as only one case was disposed of.
There are 13 cases pending with the additional deputy commissioner, Khliehriat.
Out of the 12 POCSO cases under the deputy commissioner of North Garo Hills, not a single case was disposed of, while the District and Sessions Judge, Williamnagar, has seven pending cases and additional district magistrate (judicial) only one.
Out of the six cases pending with the deputy commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, two were disposed of, while there are no cases in District Council court.
