NONGPOH: The Durbar of Lumnongthymmai Byrnihat falling under Umling C&RD Block has got its community hall that was built without any assistance from the Government.
Umroi MLA Ngaitlang Dhar inaugurated the hall, which was built with contributions from villagers, on Saturday. The construction cost was approximately Rs 20 lakh.
Criticising Jirang MLA Lamboklang Mylliemngap for ignoring development in the area, Lumnongthymmai headman Sosthenes Sohtun said “this attitude of the MLA prompted us to invite Dhar, a responsible MLA of Ri Bhoi who has done good work in Umroi”.
Sohtun also said the Durbar plans to build a badminton court and a stadium for indoor sports in the first and second floors of the building. Dhar said the village leaders could build the hall without government aid “because of the unity and cooperation”. He also donated Rs 50,000 to the Durbar for beautification of the hall.
