SHILLONG: The apex administrative board of the Achik Youth Council (AYC) headquarters in Tura has urged the Government to upgrade old private colleges in Garo Hills in particular and the State in general, to government deficit or ad hoc with sanctioned post.
Garo Hills has only two deficit colleges, three government ad hoc/aided grant colleges with minimum sanctioned post in each department. The old private colleges in Garo Hills are Phukan Memorial College Dalu, Ampati Degree College and Khaji-Zaman College, among others.
The council said poor students in Garo Hills have to drop out of private college because they cannot pay fees. With government aid, fees will be reduced and more students can pursue education, said council chief Dimseng Koknal Marak.
