Shillong: The road leading to NEIGRIHMS from Umpling via Itshyrwat has become a dumping ground for people. The secretary of the Dorbar Shnong Umpling, L Jyrwa, had alleged that vehicles passing through the area late at night and early in the morning dump garbage by the roadside.
A meeting of the Dorbar Shnong held on March 18 has come up with a warning that litterers would be dealt strictly by the Dorbar before handing over the culprit to the law enforcing authorities.
Jyrwa has also asked the land owners of Dong Shaneng, Umbah, Lum Surok, Lumdiengmet and Sharum to immediately contact the executive members of the Dorbar at its office on Mondays and Thursdays between 6.30 pm – 8.00 pm and on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 11 am within March 22, and to bring their land documents to ascertain the boundaries and mark out the public drains, roads and footpaths.
The secretary said that most landowners have allowed their plots to turn into jungles where bamboo groves have sprung up and which in turn become hazardous when cyclones or strong winds hit the area. “Some boundary walls have crumbled and encouraged encroachment, at night undesirable elements take shelter in these unoccupied lands apart from turning them into dumping grounds for garbage, thereby violating the Dorbar statutes,” he added.
