SHILLONG: The legislators on Monday raised the need to provide various incentives to the journalists in Meghalaya. Taking part in the discussion on the Budget on Monday, UDP MLA Embhahlang Syiemlieh asked the State Government to institute a single window agency to clear all the pending bills. Independent MLA John Leslee Sangma said that since media persons bridge the gap between the Government and the public by providing information, adequate facilities should be given to them. They referred to the recent memorandum submitted to the chief minister by the Meghalaya Editors and Publishers Association.
Earlier on Friday, listing various demands of MEPA, Opposition Leader Donkupar Roy said that if the government provides the required facilities to the media persons in the State, more talent will be attracted towards the profession.
According to Roy, the government should look into the request for providing pension and housing schemes besides health facilities to genuine journalists belonging to the State.
Roy said that the Government can also implement risk allowance scheme for working journalists in case of critical illness, disability or deaths.
