SHILLONG: The case related to providing Z category security to former Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh and Y category to former Judge T.N.K Singh after their retirement was taken up by the Supreme Court on Monday.
The matter will again come up for hearing on Wednesday.
During the hearing on Monday, the report of the central security agencies was placed before the Apex Court.
Earlier, the former Meghalaya chief justice had written to the Registrar General of the Supreme Court justifying the order that he passed before his retirement from the High Court.
Supreme Court lawyer and legal counsel of the State government Ranjan Mukherjee said over phone from Delhi that the former chief justice had questioned him for going to the press about the security to judges. However, Mukherjee said he had only referred to the assessment report of the Centre that after analysing the threat perception, security is provided to the former judges.
As far as former Judge T.N.K Singh is concerned, Manipur is providing security to him and currently he is the President of Manipur State Consumer Redressal Commission.
Earlier, the State government had made it clear that if the retired judges visit Meghalaya, the State would be happy to provide security to them and even provide inputs if the states where they reside ask for security assessment.
