SHILLONG: HSPDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit on Friday stressed the need for streamlining Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
Moving a cut motion in the Assembly on the functioning of personnel department, Basaiawmoit said the general perception of the public, especially candidates appearing for examinations for various posts conducted by the MPSC, is that the selection process is not fair, transparent and free from corruption and anomalies. “This is reflected in the news items reported from time to time. In some cases the candidates have even knocked the door of the Court to seek redress for their grievances against the Commission,” he said.
He added more steps have to be adopted in order to develop a reliable and a foolproof system as far as the functioning of the MPSC is concerned.
He also wanted to know whether the MPSC has created a confidentiality cell/section to deal with confidential matters.
The legislator wanted the MPSC to institute a panel of question setters in each subject, since setting of questions by a single person will increase the possibility of leakage of questions.  Another query was regarding the percentage fixed for the interview out of the total marks.
Basaiawmoit also wanted to know whether, mark sheets are provided to successful candidates and also to those who failed to qualify the written, especially for class I posts. In his reply, the Chief Minister assured transparency in the recruitments.
