Shillong: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi, said on Saturday the one-stop crisis centre for victims of violence will soon be functional.
The centre will provide medical care, counselling and will monitor the victim.
Bakshi met members of the district Level Co-ordination Committee (DLCC) on Crime against Women in Tura on Saturday.
DLCC is responsible for reviewing reports of crime against women, ensure effective coordination between officers concerned on programmes and measures to combat this menace and also to support all stakeholders for sensitising people about violence against women.
To a suggestion to give temporary shelter to the victims of domestic violence without registering a formal case, the Deputy Commissioner  said it was necessary to register a case under the rule once the victim is admitted in such shelter but said the proposal would be forwarded to authorities concerned for consideration.
The District Social Welfare Officer and representative from the police department in Tura said crime against women in West Garo Hills is less compared to other districts and so far, three cases have been settled.  However, they did not rule out the possibility of several unreported cases.
