SHILLONG: A major breakdown of pipeline at Laitjem on Sunday evening has affected supply of water in areas under Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme.
In a statement on Sunday, PHE Superintending Engineer D. War said due to the breakdown of a “750 mm diameter CI gravity main pipe of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme at Laitjem (opposite to Church of God), there will be no water supply till March 30”.
The official said all the areas under the scheme will be affected during the period.
“Every effort is being made to complete repair works for restoration of water supply by March 30,” the statement added.
Sources said the pipe supplying water broke after road construction activities were carried out in and around the area.
