TURA: A group of Garo organisations led by the NH-62 Save Mission Committee have given a 10-day deadline to the State Government to stop plying of overloaded coal trucks on the Garo Hills highway to check destruction of the crucial road that links East and North Garo Hills districts with Assam.
A delegation from the organisations – namely GSU units of Rongjeng, Dobu, Nengkra and Nangalbibra, FKJGP Dobu and Rongjeng units with the NH-62 Save Mission Committee – met at Dobu on Tuesday.
In a letter to the government, these organisations have demanded immediate action against overloaded coal trucks plying on NH-62 as per the orders of the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court.
“We had given three petitions to the State Government since February to ensure coal trucks do not exceed the 9-metric tonne weight limit but no action was taken. We are giving the Government 10 days’ time to check this,” a joint statement read.
