SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) asserted that they have not abandoned their demand for Inner Line Permit in the State and would continue demanding its implementation.
When asked on whether the entry and exit points are enough to tackle influx in the State, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said the organisation suggested comprehensive mechanisms after the State Government rejected the ILP proposal in the State.
“We did not say these will function as ILP, but we stated that we need laws that are similar to ILP to check the entry of immigrants as part of KSU. We have not abandoned the issue of ILP and will continue demanding ILP in the State,” said Khyriem, adding that the entry and exit points would have to be reviewed and there was a need to have stringent laws to check influx. Reiterating their opposition to railways, the KSU president said the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council would convene a meeting over the contentious issue.
“We will keep opposing as in the State there are no such mechanisms that will prevent illegal immigrants from entering,” he added.
Speaking on the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, he said till date the Deputy Commissioners have not constituted a district task force.
