Gorkha recruits inducted into Indian Army

SHILLONG: The passing out parade of recruit batch number 174 was held at 8 Gorkha Training Centre on Saturday.
The parade symbolises the culmination of training of the recruits and their transformation into young soldiers.
A total of 66 Recruits of 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) and 109 of 8 Gorkha Rifles took the oath of affirmation at the ceremony at Harish Parade Ground in the Centre.
The commencement parade was reviewed by Brigadier R.S. Thakur, Commandant 58 Gorkha Training Centre and trophies were awarded to the young soldiers performing exceedingly well in various disciplines of military training.
Barun Darjee was adjudged the ‘Overall Best Recruit’ and was awarded the Manekshaw Khukri.
Sanjay Sharma was adjudged the ‘Best Recruit 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force)’ and was awarded Zorawar Khukri and Barun Darjee was adjudged the ‘Best Recruit of 8 Gorkha Rifles’ and was awarded the Dutta Trophy.
The parade was attended by the parents of young recruits who came to witness the transformation of their son into fine soldier of Indian Army. The parents of the young soldiers were also honoured with the Gaurav Padak to commemorate their contribution to the Nation.
