SHILLONG: If there is no early probe into the Raj Bhavan scandal, the State BJP is planning to raise the matter during the next National Executive Council meeting of the party.
Soon after the controversies surrounding former Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan surfaced, state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh had written to national president Amit Shah for an impartial probe into the matter.
Lyngdoh said on Sunday that though the Centre may take some more time to probe the incident, he would raise the matter at the National Executive Council meeting of the party.
“After we wrote a letter for the probe, we are still waiting for the reply. The Centre may discuss the matter thoroughly before taking a decision, hence the delay,” Lyngdoh said.
The state BJP leader said that he wanted a clear picture to emerge. “Otherwise, people will say the BJP tried to hide the facts as the Governor was appointed by the BJP-led   government at the Centre.”
According to the BJP leader, even if it is late, the matter will be taken up at the National Executive Council meet.
“As a party, we believe in transparency and accountability and the truth should be revealed. Even the former Governor can also demand a probe into the matter with the Centre. If the former Governor is guilty, he should be punished and if he is clean, let him live in peace,” the BJP leader said.
When contacted, national spokesperson of BJP Nalin Kohli said since the party is busy with elections in other states, the decision on the probe is yet to be taken.
