NGO files RTI as village heads embezzle NREGA fund

SHILLONG: Niaw Wasa Youth Federation (NWYF), an NGO, had filed an RTI revealing the misappropriation of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) at Modop Village.
The RTI was received from the office of Block Development Officer (BDO) Thadlaskein and from the office of the executive engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE) reported that the village heads of Modop, West Jaintia Hills have misappropriated the schemes.
In a statement to the press, vice-president of NWYF, Thermon Susngi informed that they have filed an FIR against the village heads. “This is not the first time that such incident took place in the village and has urged concerned authorities to pursue on the FIR filed by them to punish the wrongdoers,” he added.
