SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said on Thursday the State would seek opinion of multiple legal experts on whether it should probe the case of molestation by former governor V. Shanmuganathan.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sangma said, “I have sought more legal opinion on this. Everything that is linked with legalities will have to be guided by the law of the land and all other spaces, which is as per the mandate of law of the land.”
When asked whether the probe will be done by the State or the Centre, he said, “I am seeking legal opinion and we are to get opinion from different sources and not just from one source and let us be guided by legal opinion.”
According to sources, the Political Department had sought the views of the Law Department, the Advocate General and the Additional Advocate General on the matter.
The sources said the query was general in nature and did not specify on what ground the opinion will have to be presented by the Law Department. It is yet to be known whether the Centre has sought any report on the matter or the State Government will probe the matter.
