SHILLONG: Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills P.S Dkhar said youths should travel to the interiors of the districts to know the current situation and the plight of the people there.
Addressing the young participants at the inaugural ceremony of a State-level Youth Leadership, Capacity Building and National Integration camp at Youth Hostel on Tuesday, Dkhar said, “I have seen many dropouts in rural areas and the poverty there. Children die at a very young age.”
He urged the youths to interact with one another to understand values of life and help people in need.
Dkhar advocated the need to set up similar capacity building camps in native villages of the participants who will then spread the message of leadership among others. “We should have the spirit of being more disciplined, which is the first step to move forward. Later, we can look at what our responsibilities are as youths,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner pointed out that the youths at the camp will work as a team during the workshop everyone should play a participatory role.
In view of the spurt in criminal activities in the State, he said the youths trained in capacity building can inspire others and stop them from going astray.
“We are to mould and see that other youths come together to join them on the right track. We should give our commitment to contribute to the good of the society,” he said.
