Raj Bhavan beats Hills United in Shillong League

SHILLONG: The Shillong Cricket League 3rd division match was played between Hills United CC vs Rajbhawan CC. Raj Bhavan defeated Hills United by 27 runs. Raj Bhavan won the toss and decided to bat first. Scoring 140/7 in 20 overs, Raj Bhavan batsmen, Sanjay Mandal scored 47 runs off 37 balls and Wan Mawroh scored 29 runs off 2e balls. In reply, Hills United scored 113/6 in 20 overs, while batsmen Mercellous scored 30 runs off 24 balls and Mankhraw scored 27 runs off 36 balls. Raj Bhavan’s bowlers, Kalinga took 3 wickets, while Wan Mawroh took 2 wickets. Hills United’s bowlers, Banmanbha and Pynhunlang took 2 wickets each.

Ghosh, Shetty secure main draw berths at India Open

NEW DELHI: India’s Soumyajit Ghosh and Sanil Shetty staged a valiant fightback to enter the main draw of the ITTF World Tour India Open on the opening day of the USD 150,000 event here. Soumyajit, a double Olympian and one of India’s leading players alongside Sharath Kamal, had to dig deep to quell a strong challenge from Saudi Arabia’s Ali Alkhadrawi 4-3. He began slowly, trailing 6-11, 9-11 before he got into his groove. The Siliguri lad won the third game 11-6 but lost the next 12-14 to be looking at the prospect of an unexpected upset. But he started attacking the left-handed Alkhadrawi’s body more to rattle him. By then, Soumyajit was in his elements, putting up a solid defensive game while going for the kill at every conceivable opportunity. (PTI)

Chennai City hold Churchill to 1-1 draw in I-League tie

CHENNAI: Chennai City FC stretched their undefeated run under new coach V. Soundarajan to two successive games as they played out a 1-1 draw against Churchill Brothers here on Tuesday. Churchill themselves broke their two match losing streak at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai with Brandon Fernandes (63rd) scoring for the Goan side and Charles de Souza (65th) equalising for the hosts two minutes later. Soundararajan named an unchanged lineup as he went with the players that defeated Mumbai FC on Saturday. Michael Rejin was again handed a start while Charles led the lines for the South Indian side as the new coach looked to continue his perfect run. (IANS)
