SHILLONG: In a twist to the site selection for Mawlai Community and Rural Development Block, the Mawlai Town Dorbar has opposed the suggestion of headmen of five villages to set up the block at Mawsiatkhnam citing that it is not centrally located.
The president of Mawlai Town Dorbar S.D Khongwir said on Thursday that as reported to him, the Mawlai Town Dorbar which met on Wednesday opposed the idea of establishing the proposed Mawlai C&RD Block at Mawsiatkhnam mainly on the ground that the village is not centrally located.
“I am sure the general public of the villages within the proposed Block would also not lend support to such an idea,” Khongwir said.
Earlier, the representatives of five villages– Mawsiatkhnam, Umrynjah, Madan Mawkhar, Nongkohlew and Umprew, led by Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie had handed over a letter to the Director of the C&RD supporting the move to set up the Block at Mawsiatkhnam.
It may be mentioned that two pressure groups in the city had slammed the state government for what they termed as unnecessary delay in the inauguration of the Mawlai C&RD Block.
