TURA: Members of the association of truck drivers and owners stopped plying commercial trucks to and from Garo Hills on Thursday in protest against the murder of a driver on NH-31 near Dolonggre village.
Dozens of commercial trucks have come to a standstill in Garo Hills.
The association also submitted a memorandum to the West Garo Hills SP seeking the arrest of those involved in the murder.
Ram Nath Rai from Bihar’s Samastipur district was found with the head smashed. Police are trying to unravel the mystery as to how he landed up at Dolonggre when he was already at Paikan preparing to travel on to Bongaigaon.
Cops clueless in
kidnap case
South Garo Hills police have so far failed to make any headway into the abduction of seven workers of a limestone quarry who were taken away at gunpoint by suspected ASAK militants on Tuesday morning.
Despite intensive combing operations in the jungles of the South Garo Hills region, particularly Chokpot, the six lorry drivers and a mechanic, are yet to be found even as sources reveal that the militants have communicated to the families for ransom.
