TURA: Bakdil NGO on Saturday called for the need to ensure that rights of children are protected.
The appeal was made at a community awareness programme on issues pertaining to children that was held at Sonanpara village school on the outskirts of Tura.
As many as 52 participants, both men and women, took part in the awareness drive that included the assistant headman and ASHA workers.
The coordinator for Childline in Bakdil, Prasanta Pathang, spoke at length about the Childline Project and Allied System, its aim and objectives.
He also enumerated on the ways to fight issues like child abuse, child labour and drug addiction, “which are slowly creeping into our society”.
One of the highlights of the meeting was to make people aware of the child helpline phone number 1098, which is toll free.
Team member of Childline, Sanrik R. Marak, gave a presentation on the works undertaken by Childline and the various cases it had taken up and action that followed.
“Childline works 24×7 for children, who are below 18 years of age,” said Sanrik R Marak.
He also spoke on dropouts, child abuses and labour, POCSO Act, 2012.
