JOWAI: The JSU led by its president Rikut N Parien held a meeting with the Executive Member in-charge Taxation Department of the JHADC, KM Lytan, and expressed concern over alleged illegal trading by non-tribals in Jaintia Hills.
The union asked the JHADC to take up the trading license and temporary clearance certificate (TCC) issues in East and West Jaintia Hills districts seriously.
The JSU claimed that there are hundreds of outsiders who are into various businesses in Jaintia Hills without obtaining trading license and TCC.
“Such trading by non-tribals amounts to exploitation of the local traders and the JHADC needs to take the matter seriously,” JSU chief Parien stated in a released issued here. He added that the JHADC’s Taxation department has sufficient man power to handle the matter.
The JSU leaders urged JHADC to take stern action against non-tribal traders who violated the Trading by Non Tribal Act and also to strictly control the method of issuing trading license.
According to JSU leaders, the EM in-charge taxation assured them to follow up the matter.
