SHILLONG: Meghalaya High Court has issued a notice to state government on a PIL filed by Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meena Kharkongor regarding the delay on the part of the government to shift the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Maw-phlang to the new building.
She had visited the JNV campus on October 5, 2015, following complaints from parents whose wards study at JNV.
Acting on the complaints, Kharkongor had passed an order that within 3 months the JNV authorities must shift the students to the new campus failing which she would move the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights against the JNV.
It may be mentioned that Kharkongor had told reporters back in 2015 that as a State Commission it has the power to approach the High Court as well.
She had pointed out to the abysmal living conditions in the school in which the classrooms are sheltered with tin sheds and the boys are housed in the PHCs and the girls in the BDO’s office, moreover, the kitchen was said to be in a bad condition.
The Principal of JNV, Vikraman Nair had expressed his inability to shift the students to the new campus as the institution was facing technical difficulties with various departments.
