Minister concerned over exodus of NE youth

SHILLONG: Minister of State for DoNER Jitendra Singh has expressed concern over the migration of northeastern youths to other parts of the country and abroad and said textile sector in the region can give a solution to the problem.
Speaking at the inauguration of the first North East Investors’ Summit here on Sunday, Singh said the Centre was concerned about the exodus of youth in search of quality education and livelihood.
The Union Minister pointed out that the textile sector in the North East can create job opportunities as the region has nearly 60 per cent of the country’s handloom potential.
He said summits like the one on Sunday will help in promoting textile entrepreneurship and assured that the DoNER ministry will provide initial venture capital fund to start-ups in the region.
