City roads to open in reverse direction to avoid congestion

SHILLONG: The Office of Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills has informed that the National Highway and the Internal Roads, Shillong Traffic Police have come out with the following proposals whereby Hopkinson Road, Jacob’s Ladder Road and Boyce Road will be opened in reverse direction, which will be implemented in the first week of February before the schools in the city reopens in order to avoid congestion in the city.
‘No Entry’ from Don Bosco towards St. Stephan’s Hall and Jacob’s Ladder Road. All vehicles will be plying in reverse order from Lower Lachummiere near DIPR towards Hopkinson Road and exit at Don Bosco Square, the Office informed.
The vehicles will also be plying from St. Anthony’s College Junction through Jacob’s Ladder and exit at Don Bosco Square.
‘No Entry’ at Shillong Commerce College Junction towards St. Mary’s College. All vehicles will exit from Don Bosco Square towards Shillong College – Shillong Commerce College through Boyce Road.
Vehicles coming from Laitumkhrah and Upland Road can exit through Don Bosco Square – St. Mary’s College – Shillong Commerce College road.
There will be ‘NO RIGHT TURN’ for vehicles coming through Jacob’s Ladder and St. Stephan’s Hall Road towards Dhankheti. All vehicles will have to proceed straight towards Laitumkhrah.
Residents from Hopkinson Road can exit from Lower Lachummiere. All vehicles coming from B. K. Bajoria side and wanting to go to Laitumkhrah will have to use Jacob’s Ladder Road to Don Bosco.
The same will be implemented before school resumes. The aim is to reduce the traffic Barik – Malki – Dhankheti areas and open the link roads which have not been put to full use. In this regard, the Office has urged the general public to cooperate with Shillong Traffic Police. For queries, contact Additional.
