SHILLONG: The FKJGP is encouraging locals to explore different career options if they want to check influx.
Talking at the backdrop of a car rally on Tuesday as part of its social-economic movement, FKJGP president Wellbirth Rani said the organisation initiated the movement to encourage people to tap opportunities available in the State.
Besides protecting the right of indigenous people, the movement is aimed at regaining foothold in trade as they alleged that illegal migrants have arrogated to themselves the top-most position in trading.”People from outside take the opportunity to work as our people are reluctant to take up their profession,” Rani told The Shillong Times. Rani said locals here talk about influx “but they should take up the professions that migrants opt for so that illegal migration can be blocked”.
FKJGP is encouraging locals to work in other trades, he added. The rally on Tuesday started from its office at Mawlai Motsyiar. Units and circles of FKJGP took part in the rally that passed by FCI, Lumjingshai, Polo, Demseiñïong, IGP, Barik-Civil, Lumsurvey, Motphran till Dinam Hall, Jaïaw.
Book release
As part of the programme, FKJGP released a book, ‘Ka Jingkieng Diengjri’ (The Living Root Bridge) that speaks of reviving orange cultivation in Ri-War areas and to convert areas under broomstick cultivation to sugarcane cultivation.
