NONGPOH: D.D Lapang has asked villagers living along the Assam-Meghalaya border to register their property to avoid encroachment from the neighbouring state.
Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the irrigation project at Marmain village in Ri Bhoi on Monday, Lapang also said before the railway line project affects anyone, families should shift to other places.
The project was funded under the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) 2016-17 at an estimated cost of Rs 3.73 crore and covering 150 hectares. As many as 139 farmers are likely to benefit from this project.
With agriculture being the main source of income here, Lapang hoped that this project will go a long way in promoting and uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the people.
“The government has implemented many schemes and projects for the benefit of the people, therefore, I urge you to properly utilise and maintain them for the overall prosperity of people in the district and the state as a whole,” said the chief advisor to the Government.
Lapang, who is also the local MLA, was also concerned about the growing unemployment and said the Government is trying to ease the situation by setting up vocational training centres.
