SHILLONG: The National Highway-40 from Shillong to Dawki will take time to complete as the State Government is yet to expedite the project.
The State Government took up the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sponsored NH-40 (International Road) from Shillong to Dawki in 2015. The road will connect India with Bangladesh.
In 2016, PWD (Roads) Minister Martin M. Danggo convened a meeting with other ministers over the project, but nothing has materialised till date. The road extends up to 71 kms from Shillong to Dawki which includes the proposal to construct a four-lane stretch of over 15km from Umshyrpi bridge to Mylliem.
A delegation of JICA visited Shillong in January to take stock of the project, the base for which was laid by the then Union Minister of State (PWD Roads) Mahadev Singh Khandela in 2009.
