SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills (Supply), Jopthiaw Lyngdoh, will call a review meeting with various LPG distribution agencies in the city on November 8 to deliberate on the new system of booking and refilling of gas cylinders.
Lyngdoh said that under the proposed system, a consumer would be able to book his gas cylinder a day after the delivery of the cylinder instead of waiting for 15 days for booking and 10 days for refilling as is being done now.
“We will discuss the pros and cons of the new system. The sole intension is to reduce people’s tensions by allowing consumers to book the gas cylinders before 25 days,” the DC said.
Reacting to complaints that consumers are sometimes made to wait for as many as 45 days before the gas agencies deliver the cylinders, Lyngdoh said, “People don’t come forward with their complaints. They simply complain among themselves.
“If they drop in a written complaint, I can assure them that their identities will not be revealed and the administration can immediately take action against the gas agencies.”
On the issue of overcharging by the Fair Price Shops dealers from kerosene oil consumers, Lyngdoh said, “If it is a mutual understanding between the dealers and the consumer due to shortage of coins, then we cannot do anything. But if the consumers are forced to pay an amount more than the price fixed by the authorities, then action would be taken.
“We need complaints in black and white and then only we can take actions against those involved in unfair practices.”
Lyngdoh also mentioned that the department would conduct surprise checking in the field to keep to keep track of any problem faced by the consumers.
