Snap poll in UK

BRITISH Prime Minister Theresa May is evidently still in a state of uncertainty about going ahead with
triggering article 50 to effect the UK’s divorce from the European Union. The massive support, the Brexit
Referendum received in Parliament was apparently not enough. May called for an early election in the
UK to be held on June 8. She had been reluctant to ask Parliament to back her move to bring forward
the date of the election from 2010. But she thinks it is necessary to win support for the ruling
Conservative Party’s effort to implement Brexit. Opinion polls gave her a strong leap. The pounds
strengthened by almost half a cent against the dollar and the 10-year old British Government bond yields
rose slightly. All this happened after May announced the holding of a snap poll. She asserts the early
election is necessary to secure a strong and secured leadership for the British nation. Every vote for her
Conservative Party will take the wind out of Oppositions sails. It appears May is capitalising on
the Opinion polls.
The Conservative Party is 20 points ahead of the main Opposition, the Labour Party under Jeremy
Corbyn who is against Brexit. The Labour Party also favours the new election. Corbyn has the backing of
the Liberal Democrats who want to reopen the debate on the Brexit referendum. However, the main obstacle
to Brexit comes from Scotland which wants a separate referendum. Northern Ireland wants unification with the Irish Republic on the issue.
