SHILLONG: On a high after two consecutive victories, Meghalaya on Saturday booked a semi-final berth in the U-14 Sub Junior National Football Tournament in Kozhikode, Kerala beating West Bengal 4-1. It was West Bengal which broke the deadlock in the 16th minute as Meghalaya were down by a goal for the first time in the tournament. However, the northeastern side kept its calm and came back strong to exert pressure on the opponents. Within minutes Bengal scored an own goal to hand the equaliser to Meghalaya. Three minutes after the half hour mark, Glennys Lynrah tapped one in to perfection after a melee inside the box to make it 2-1 in favour of Meghalaya. Buoyed by the double strike, Meghalaya boys kept raiding the opposition half at regular intervals and in the 43rd minute Damaitphang Lyngdoh won the ball in the midfield and placed a perfect penetration pass to Fairlystar Suting who made no mistake to direct it to the nets. At half time, Meghalaya led 3-1. Crossing over, West Bengal looked resilient and kept the opponents at bay for most part. However, Meghalaya put the final nail in the coffin with a stoppage time goal by Lynrah who was assisted beautifully by Henry Nongneng.
