JOWAI: The JHADC Chairman, Arborhima Darnei, has said the Council will identify and recognise the cultural activities of indigenous inhabitants of Jaintia Hills.
Speaking at the Shad Sukra annual festival of the Sein Raij Shnong at Wapungshnong, Darnei said the decision was taken after an art and culture department was set up within the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.
Meanwhile, the lone lady member of the JHADC, Violet Lyngdoh, who also attended the sowing fest as the guest of honour, lauded the Sein Raij Shnong, Wapungshnong, for organising such an attractive cultural festival.
“The festival is not only a celebration before sowing our seeds into the soil, but it also brings oneness among the residents,” she said.
The Dolloi of Jowai, Puramon Kynjing, and local MDC Laski Rymbai also spoke on the occasion.
