SHILLONG: At a time when there is chaos over the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Khasi Hills Autonomous Council, Adelbert Nongrum of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) said their support to the coalition “is based on issues”.
Nongrum, who is also a member of the House Committee, said KHNAM’s support for the People’s Democratic Forum was from the beginning directed by various local issues.
He said the then secretary of the Council did not route the money through proper department.
When asked about the role of KHADC CEM P.N Syiem and Executive Member Neil Antonio War, Nongrum said, “The report revealed that they gave directions. We cannot allege as there is no adequate proof.”
Elections 2018
The preparation for 2018 Assembly elections is on, Nongrum said. “We are looking for candidates who have the priority to serve the people of the state as well as the winnability factor of the candidate,” he added.
With all political parties gearing up for the upcoming elections, Nongrum said, “We have to be strong in our foundation and reach our goals. Mudslinging has no meaning as it usually happens before election. We leave it to the general masses”.
