Ex-BDO in GH accused of graft

SHILLONG: Y.M Momin, a former BDO of Baghmara in South Garo Hills has been accused of illegally withdrawing Rs 55 lakh meant for the construction of roads under a rural road scheme.
A statement by Balmen G. Momin said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 25 lakh in 2015 for connecting roads from NH-62 to Siju Arateka village under the black topping of rural road scheme.
According to him, the work remained a non-starter and so villagers met the officers and demanded that the road be constructed but there was no response from the officers.
Momin said the villagers finally filed an RTI and they came to know that Rs 55 lakh which was sanctioned was illegally withdrawn by the then BDO YM Momin.
The statement said the villagers filed an FIR in this connection and they will take up the matter with the Chief Secretary and the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Rural roads.
Attempts to talk to the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner failed.
