Crackdown on coal trucks violating load limit

SHILLONG: Despite repeated prohibitory orders from the district administration, trucks in Jaintia Hills have been carrying coal much beyond the permissible limit.
In East Jaintia Hills, ADM, Khliehriat, K.L Nongbri detected five trucks transporting coal beyond the permissible limit on April 24.
On the same day, C.P Mawkon, Executive Magistrate, Khliehriat along with police conducted checking at Khliehriat and detected five more trucks carrying coal beyond the permissible limit and without proper documents, in violation of the NGT order.
Meanwhile, in West Jaintia Hills, Police detected six trucks carrying coal beyond permissible load capacity. The trucks were detected at Phramer check gate on Monday.
The trucks (ML04A-1987, ML04A-8029, ML04A-8057, AS01AC-7471, AS24C-2255 and ML04B-1223) were detained and seized by police.
A case under section “188/34 IPC read with section 194 MV Act” has been registered against the truck owners.
Few days back, the Ri Bhoi police had detained 252 trucks for carrying coal in violation of the NGT order.
