SHILLONG: A fresh writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the notification issued to acquire land in the name of the owner for expansion of the Umroi airport.
The land owner has also filed an FIR alleging that land documents have been manipulated, said Erwin Sutnga, the counsel for petitioners challenging the government’s decision to acquire land.
The land owners from villages near the Umroi airport are now waiting for the final hearing in the Supreme Court.
The apex court had earlier stayed the order passed by the High Court of Meghalaya in relation to the dislocation of households in the airport’s vicinity.
Sutnga said it is not known when the matter will come up for hearing.
Earlier, the Public Accounts Committee of the Legislative Assembly had found that the office of the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner paid compensation to undeserved people claiming to be land owners.
