SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement, East Khasi Hills has expressed disappointment over the inability of the state government to immediately shift the sweepers and harijans from the lane at Them Mawlong to the building opposite the former Chief Minister, DD Lapang’s official residence.

In a statement issued here recently, HANM president Storgy Lyngdoh has alleged that the politicians are less concerned about the indigenous people of the state by allowing and supporting the non-tribals to do whatever they want in the city.

“It seems, our politicians get more votes from these harijans and they think only about the next election not about the next generation. Because if they had, then they would immediately address the issues pertaining safety of the indigenous tribals of the state”, alleged Lyngdoh.

The union also urged the government to strongly take note of this point and immediately shift the harijans to the proposed building to avoid any disturbances which had earlier brought about many troubles in the city.
