FIR against headman for threatening women police

JOWAI: Women Police in Jowai have filed an FIR against the headman of Loomkyrwiang locality in Jowai for disrupting and threatening officers on duty while conducting liquor raid on Saturday.
Police have also registered a case under section 353/354/506/34 IPC R/W Sec. 53(1)(A) Meghalaya Excise Act.
According to the complaint, Women Police on Friday, were detailed for conducting liquor raids by the Officer In Charge, Jowai Police Station in Loomkyrwiang locality. On reaching the site around 9:00 pm, where the bootleggers were carrying out their business, the Headman of the locality, Mewan Laloo, interrupted the officials.
Laloo threatened the woman officer and her team, and stopped them from performing their duties. The headman went on saying that he has given the bootleggers permission to run the business.
The headman of Loomkyrwiang further said that the police have no rights to enter in their locality and conduct raids.
Laloo instigated the denizens who came out in force and joined him in his illegal act. Police had to retreat from the area due to the enraged mob.
On the other hand, the same incident was reported on April 15, at Lumkyrwiang, when WPSI I. Kharpran, OC Jowai Women PS had gone for raids.
