SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has said he does not need a certificate for governance from Assam BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sangma, who was reacting to Sarma’s criticism of him and his government’s failure to ensure development in the State, said, “The aim of the State Government is to bring development in all parts of Meghalaya and the government has showed the people its work in urban and rural areas. That is why I don’t need a certificate from Himanta as the final judgement rests with the public.”
The chief minister was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a stone laying ceremony at Amlarem in West Jaintia Hills on Saturday.
Continuing his tirade against the Assam minister, Sangma said the people of Meghalaya are wise and they “elect their representatives wisely”.
“They are very cautious and the strength of the state depends on the strength of its people,” he added.
During his visit to the State last week, Sarma had blamed Sangma for making Meghalaya the worst performing state in the region. He also said BJP would make a “charge sheet” of the MUA-II government’s scandals, corruption and failures.
