Guwahati: Assam government will be encouraging aforestation among students by linking their education subsidy with plantation and nurturing of one sapling per student.
The idea to make it compulsory for students availing educational fee waiver from the government to plant and nurture a sapling was mooted by state Education minister Himanta Biswa Sharma at a meeting with college principals of the state here on Monday.
The new concept will be applicable for students seeking continuation of waiver of fees in second year admissions for higher secondary and for second and third year students of degree course.
