SHILLONG: Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma once again became the target of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who said the senior BJP leader would create more problems for his own party than the Congress.
Sangma said on Tuesday Sarma is certain to trigger infighting within the Assam BJP a year from now and will put his party in a spot.
“I am predicting that after one year Sarma will demand that Sarbananda Sonowal be replaced by him. The BJP will have more problems because of him rather than the Congress. Sarma left Congress because of the same reason,” Sangma told reporters.
The chief minister, who had earlier said the BJP leader was no one to judge him, also questioned Sarma’s new found love for the people of Meghalaya.
“Why is he so concerned about Meghalaya all of a sudden,” Sangma said adding that people coming from across the border are trying to assert their presence in the State without taking into account the ground reality.
During his visit to the city last month, Sarma had blamed Sangma for the lack of development in Meghalaya.
He had said BJP would work to ensure that Sangma does not even become an MLA in 2018.
“People have different ways of showing their assertiveness,” Sangma said and added that he was not affected by Sarma’s allegations. He slammed Sarma for terming Meghalaya as the worst performing state in the Northeast. “The BJP leader must do his homework before making such comments,” Sangma said.
